Thank you for visiting my website and taking the time to learn a little bit about me. My name is Andrew Steinman and I am an educational technologist, husband, and amateur cat trainer.
For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in technology. It started off as just a hobby and has grown into a career. This transition started while going through Michigan State University’s bachelor’s in biology and teaching certificate programs, but began to bloom when I started my first teaching position as a biology teacher for L’Anse Creuse Public Schools. I wanted to find unique and more effective ways to engage my students with the curriculum. My familiarity with many of the available technologies in my school led me to explore these as a possible solution. After seeing some success in my classes, I began to share my ideas with other interested teachers. I was even able to partner with another teacher, Gary Abud, to create engaging lessons enriched with technology.
This was only the beginning of technology’s transition from hobby to career. After I started teaching IB biology at the International Academy in Bloomfield Hills I realized my true passion in education. I loved teaching science, but I realized that my impact on students was limited to the students who walked into my classroom. I wanted to do more, not just for my students, but for all students. I looked at the types of lessons I taught, as well as the training I provided for staff, and realized that I was a strong technology leader. This encouraged me to continue working on my Master of Arts in Educational Technology degree from Michigan State University and to pursue a position in technology integration.
These realizations led me to my current position as an educational technology consultant at Kent ISD. In this position, I am able to share my passion of technology integration with educators all around Kent county. I strongly believe that this will allow me to help teachers with technology integration, and therefore help all of their students learn. This is my passion. My work doesn’t stop when I leave Kent ISD every day. In addition to working as an educational technology consultant, I also work as an instructor for the Blended Learning in the Classroom course from the REMC of Michigan. Additionally, I am exploring other avenues to help spread the power of strong teaching practices integrated with technology.
Outside of working, I enjoy my life with my wife. Nichole and I, who went to high school together, but never met, finally crossed paths when we both worked at L’Anse Creuse High School North. We were married on August 10, 2012 and now live together with our two cats, Niles and Frasier, in Grand Rapids.
Speaking of our cats, I am also a self-proclaimed amateur cat trainer. Contrary to poplar belief, you can train cats the same as you would with dogs. I have taught my cats several tricks, including sit, shake, and play dead. Don’t believe me? Check out one of my cat videos below:
